Rutabaga Fries

Makes 2 large or 4 small servings.


1 large rutabaga (1 ib.), peeled and cut into French fry-sized sticks

1-2 tbsp olive oil

1 1/2 tsp smoked sweet paprika

2 tsp. onion granules

1 tsp. garlic granules

1/2 tsp. sea salt

1 tsp. freshly cracked pepper

1 tbsp. rice flour, potato starch. or fine cornmeal (optional)


Preheat oven to 400.

Place the peeled and sliced rutabaga in a large bowl and add the remaining ingredients, tossing everything together until the fries are thoroughly coated with the seasonings and olive oil.

On a parchment-lined baking sheet, spread the fires out in a single layer and place the sheet in the oven for 25 minutes or until the fries have turned a golden color with browned edges.  Flip the fries once halfway through cooking with a spatula or fork.

Remove from the oven and serve immediately with what ever dipping sauces you like. (Ketchup goes surprisingly well with these fries.)
